This module provides an overview of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) networks, the most successful standard of second, third and fourth generation mobile communications network. This course introduces the services and technology of the GSM digital cellular standard. It highlights the key elements needed by each technicians or engineers to better understand the technology they are embracing and differentiate them from the so called “Repair Technicians” who do not know and understand what they are doing.
This module covers a brief history of the wireless cellular network, the evolution of the GSM network from GSM to LTE or from the first Generation to the fourth Generation, the frequencies band available in the GSM, HSPA and LTE network, the architectures of the GSM Network demonstrating the elements involve on the receiving and transmitting of calls externally and internally, the interfaces or media use in the architecture of the GSM Network, understanding of the international Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) and the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) with its different securities and format.
